Sharing "firsts" together

Having children means doing things you may never have had interest in doing, or maybe you just never had the opportunity to do. Today i climb my first tree, high, while he climbed his first (big) tree. While sitting up there admiring the view p looked at me and said," i love you mommy. Can we hug while were in this tree?" And with that i sealed the memory. Nothing is better than having a child, and im pretty darn fond of the adventures having a boy has taken me on and the love little boys offer up to their mamas. Sharing "firsts" along side your child, 28 years apart, is so magical! Everyday this baby teaches me so much about myself and life. Its amazing how much we think we know before a child comes along and teaches us that we knew nothing about living!

Washing the dishes, i see a grown boy before me...

Tonight when we got home from me picking you from grandmas you walked over to the sink, turned on the water, pulled up a stool and proceeded to wash the sink full of dishes. Then got a drying towel and laid each one out to dry. Then rinsed and folded the rag, laying it over the sink. Then carried the larger than you stool back to where it belongs. Your heart is so big and kind and full of sweetness and it makes my heart better and better and more improved with each day. You teach me so much about this life! You just grew up right there in front of me and i snapped away photos to save that memory in my mind and on paper. You said as you jumped in my arms with the biggest smile, "im soooo proud of myself!" I am so beyond proud of you too, my love. So proud.

This boy with the sweetest heart then wrote grandma a check like mommy does and wrote it for $125. His first time writing a 5 on his own, too! He then wanted to walk it to the mailbox so grandma could get her weekly check for keeping him.

Sleeping, almost 4 years later

I think in this 3rd year of life, Ps finally gotten the hang of the whole sleep thing.  For one, ive noticed that before he goes to sleep i can even stop singing and let it be quiet and hell even stop rocking right before he dozes off and hell turn over, snuggle me close and just shut his eyes. And right before he is snoring i can whisper "i love u night night" and he says it right back in a sleepy stupor with his eyes closed. I figure to talk but still continue on with sleep is pretty big, bc as a younger toddler if i spoke hed realize he was dozing off and start the fight all over again.

And his terrors have calmed down and turned more into just sleep talking and movement, like last night he sat up and startin digging in my hair behind my neck and talking. And then laid down again. It was too funny, i just let him dig for whatever it was :)

Sleeping is hard for those with such busy, smart minds

Dr. butterworth

Im sick yet again with allergies, and i feel pretty sickly so in bed i said "whew i feel hot" and p jumped up, got the thermomenter and came back and took my temp.  and my picture haha. He said " Wow mommy its high pressure " when he read the thermometer. I said "what my temp? Whats the number?" He said...
" your number was a head first and then a butt second".... 96 hahahaha. Love that boy.

Life is but a dream...

Last night and tonight p has had some interesting dreams! Its no secret hes a sleep talker as well as some hard times here and there with "confusional arrousal" as its called, where he seems awake but is violent and angry and tearful and thrashing. We finally realized after research that its best to let them have it out and not speak or comfort them. That only makes it worse, which we learned the hard way after only making him much angrier when wed try to love on him. They have seemed much less frequent in the last few months but had hit a peak about 3 months ago and it was so sad to watch and even worse to learn that he wasnt doing it mindfully and wed be getting short tempered with him :/ we also cut sugar near bedtime to assure hat wasnt part of it. But i divert! So he is of course still a restless, chatty sleeper and last night woke about 3am asking me to hold him tight and snuggle bc hed had a bad dream. In the am he told me our cat "baby" had gotten poked by the bushes at our front porch and she started to die. But she painted herself grey bc old cats are grey and since she wasnt old but was dying, she needed to be grey. He said"you know how when you die your eyes cange colors well babys were blue then green then black then red and then she died. I patted her head and kissed her so shed know i was there and wasnt leaving her ". Such big dreams for a small baby. He talked about it all day so i know it bothered him.

Now tonight he told baby while he didnt even think i could hear him," baby dont you ever do that to me in my dream again!"

Hes asleep now and the dreams continue. P just woke up eyes wide open and was so cute Said in a real cracked sleepy voice "its so muddy. Muddy... How badaa i coo ahh baa iii who am i.. I dreamin of... Im dreaming of..Ahh badda ii.. Who am i dreaming of mommy. Mommy guess what. Baby is on this picture shes drawn on this picture "
Fell asleep flr a minute then said "Just trace the dots mommy just do what the dots say", Pointing with eyes open.
(He did an ipad game before bed where he traced dots to make words and also drew the letter q).
He then opened his eyes again and said,
"I draw the letter Q. Look mommy i see shadows" ( pointing at his alphabet shadows on the ceiling).

This baby is so smart that his mind doesnt even rest at night. One reason i sleep with him and love him tight.

Every tues and wed during summer, regal cinemas does $1 movies for kids at 10am. We just found out about this awesomeness and decided to try it out. We saw one of ps favs: shaun the sheep. He loved it and is doing so well at the theatre each time we go! Afterwards he had to admire, once again, the secret life of pets poster. Def his 2016 fav movie of he year! Next up- the new Ice Age!

Sunday brunch #2

Ben and i decided to try a weekly tradition of brunch with just is 3 to make memories and build our relatonships. We tried yeast nashville. Id been once efore and loved it. And ben loves kiloches and theirs are home made and amazing. The pastry and cinnamon rolls were to die for Also. This first try with just us 3 was rocky- p was fussy and cranky - but we gave it a try and i enjoyed it a lot. Well give it another go this weekend!

Gardener

Our garden has been slow this first year but weve already scored some tiny carrots and cherry tomatoes as well as some odd shaped cucumbers! P loves to pick the weeds and find the veggies!

Bedtime love

Right as p fell asleep tonight, hereached quickly  and grabbed my face, holding it in his hand. Daytime hes nonstop and finds little time to snuggle, but at bedtime his love and affection comes out and ill accept every millisecond of it!

Busy reading his paper

Sometimes ya just gotta take a magazine break...

Underwater whistle blower!

This little ham finally did it! He went completely under water!! He closed his eyes and with his nose held laid back and submerged! I had just shown him how i could do it to help him have the courage and he couldnt be topped! So he had to show me up! I am so proud!! Speaking of, p
Mastered whistling this week also!! Hes been practicing ever since ben showed him about a month ago! Been practicing every day since and finally mastered it! Even i cant whistle!

Lowes.

Lowes is built into a boys dna. And p is no exception. He loves lowes. He loves looking down each aisle. He loves the lumbar and the nails. He loves the light fixtures and the doors. He loves it all. Once home him and ben built a kids workshop kit that he picked out: a coin bank.  He loves building those with daddy. Hes also built one with pawpaw and loved it just the same ❤️ to date i believe hes built a bird house,a monster truck, a car, a christmas train and todays bank.

Lincoln logs

Weve acquired a few used mismatched sets of lincoln logs and p loves building with them. He gets pretty serious about it, too. This week we got a few more pieces and were able to build an even bigger house. We put house furniture in it and p used his army men to sit on benches he made outside the house. He made a picnic on his bindin with fish and a food tray. Then he built what i right away thought looked like an army tanker but i had no idea thats what he meant for it to look like, not until he used his finger as a missle and began making machine gun sound effects and movking the military tanker! I thought it was quite crafty and impressive, myself! Currently, at almost 4,  p is most inthralled in imaginative play and role playing. He could nearly do without actual toys.  We had a blast playing today as always.

Cornerstone Playground

One of the nearby churches has an indoor giant payground- and its free. Weve been before but havent been in a while so today p asked to "do aomething special" so i offered up the playground as a suggestion. He said lets go! He hada lot   of fun, but being so sweet and sensitive, he had a few moments of tears whrn kids were loud or too rowdy, but quickly regained his strength after walking around the quiet church exploring. He told me he went down the big slide, too! And said his heart was fumping so hard and so fast!!!! It was precious!! P plays alone a lot even being as social and kind as he is to oter kids, he still get along very well with himself in these overatimulating situations. Much like his mama and daddy and grandma. And in the end... He still braved the top of the playplace! He made it!!
